Iberostar Message Board
My husband and I have no kids we are 32 and 37. Our original trip to S.Carolina was cancelled due to a hurricane in Sept. So we decided at the last minute to go to Mexico. We were at the Lindo Oct. 16-23rd. We stayed in Building 53. I would stay there again. No bugs at all. We were on the third floor (no elevators-thank god 'cause I needed to work off all the food I ate.)
After arriving at the airport we took a shuttle to the hotel. We stopped to drop off people at Moon Palace and El Dorado Royale. Those were two we almost stayed at. I'm glad we didn't. First impressions are important. Both entrances were not impressive. Looked run down. When we arrived at the Lindo we were relieved. Clean, colorful and new. Didn't have a problem with check in. It was raining the day we got there... but we were tired so took a nap and ate at the lunch buffet near lobby. you can order mimosa, champagne, whatever. The rooms are basic to nice. Tile floors-you wouldn't want carpet with sand, etc. Plenty of closet and drawer space. Rooms new and clean. We did tip our maid a few bucks every day and she kept us clean and mini bar stocked. No they don't serve Corona on the premises.
There are activities with the STar Friends everyday. these energetic people work 6 days a week from 9:30am-1:30am!!!
We've been to other all-inclusives... the pools here are AMAZING!! Big huge adult only pool.
Huge middle pool with two story swim up pool bar (ice cream shop on top).
No the drinks aren't strong at the pool bar. Juan will squirt a tequila concoction in your mouth if you want. The rum, etc. at pool bar is low shelf. Premium drinks are available at lobby bar.
The red and white wine tastes about the same quality as a 7 dollar bottle of wine.
Food: Way too much. Some is great some is average. Just depends on your taste. I usually don't eat donuts but they made them fresh with freshly melted chocolate at breakfast.
Cajun: didn't think I would like: IT WAS AWESOME. I had the Spicy Mushroom fettucine.
FONDUE: went twice, the first time we ate so much meat and cheese we couldn't fit the chocolate/fruit in. It's fun. No the cheese isn't the quality the Ritz would serve... but oh well. They do have great blue cheese there.
JAPANESE: Just like a Japanese rest. where they cook in front of you. Fun... we had chicken and steak. Get the banana dessert. I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't coming down with food poisoning. (it was from Xcaret-not the hotel) I would not eat at Xcaret... and by the way... if you snorkel, skip XCARET and go to XEL-HA.
GOURMET: It was my hubby's b'day and they went overboard! We had champagne, they sang and made up some chocolate cake concoction. We tipped the guy 20 bucks and you would have thought it was 100. We never had bad service the entire time. By some of the reviews.. you would have thought different. I'll tell you right now, if I worked their hours plus made as little as they do... I wouldn't be happy. But there are about 100 Mexicans waiting in line for their jobs.
oh, food was good there. Had rack of lamb, grouper and we split the veal as well (to taste-hey it's all inclusive)
ITALIAN- I had ravioli, it was good. I don't have anything bad to say about it.
Lunch buffets- have tons of stuff. the Guacamole at the buffet by the pool is good, add some spicy salsa to make it even better. (Make reservations for restaurants early)
BEACH: is nice, don't expect Daytona long stretches. There are rocks that I hit with my shins as well... it's because the hurricanes washed away a lot of sand. The water isn't murky... it's just the sand being washed up. There are tons of palapas and chairs out there and the pool. Never had a problem finding one. There is a beach grill and a beach bar.
The weather was awesome. I'm always cold and I never had to wear long sleeves at night. We were in the pool until dark some nights.
The lazy river is cute... not too exciting. Wave pool is cute as well... not like the ones in the U.S.
yes, the place is spread out and there is alot of walking... but I ate and drank so much I needed it. We got a tour of the new Mayan next store... it's very nice. We usually don't go back anywhere twice... but I would go back here again.
There is a spa my husband got a massage there. We met really cool people and had a relaxing time because we've had a rough few months at work. For a last minute trip... this was AWESOME. We've been to another AI resort in Riviera Maya and this one ROCKS!! Just remember, it's Mexico... they are a little behind the times when it comes to their entertainment and exercise classes/equipment.
Just smile and don't be rude to the help and you will have a GREAT TIME.
Do bring mosquito repellent. I get bit whether it's the U.S. or overseas. My husband didn't... but the bites don't seem to itch as much as the bites from Illinois mosquitoes.
Feel free to email me... I'm starting to ramble.
The weather: 90 and sunny everyday. Lows about 80. (sometimes a quick rainshower in the early am-before 8am).
