Iberostar Message Board
Me and my brother went to Cancun from 11/28 to 12/2 and stayed at the Iberostar Lindo for the first time. I do a great deal of research before booking any trip. I hate wasting money on bad locations and Hotels or Resorts. I am a divemaster and a diving junkie. I love to go to locations where I can dive. Needless to say I travel to the Caribbean quite a bit. This year I wanted to dive the caverns of the Yucatan ( The Cenotes ). All my research indicated that the Lindo was a great place to stay at. IT WAS BY FAR THE BEST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN!!!
Most things about the Lindo that you have read or will read are true. Food great to good, service excellent, grounds breathtaking. This place is so beautiful!!! The staff go out their way to make your stay at the Lindo the best. I have never been treated with such service anywhere in the Caribbean.
That is all I'm going to say about the Lindo because most people have already written many things in great detail about this place and 99.9% is true. I would like to add a couple of comments though. First, you might have read that some people got sick from either the water or the food. These cases are few and far between. I drank the water from the Restaurants and my room and had no problems and heard of no one having any problems. Keep in mind that this is Mexico and people do get sick from either the water or food from time to time. But the Lindo does a great job of keeping their guests from getting ill. Second, If you want to dance go to the Del Mar, it has a disco that begins at 11:00pm and is connected to the Iberostar Beach that is connected to the Lindo. Takes 6mins to walk there from the Lindo. At first not many people show up but give it an hour and the place will be packed. I went two nights and danced till 3am-great fun!!
I would mostly like to comment on the diving since I didn't find any comments on it on any of the Reviews. This is for you fellow divers.
The diving at the Lindo is done by an on-site dive shop(Dressel Divers). The diving is expensive. $50 for 1tank ($45 if you pay cash). They do have equipment that you can use for $5 extra or so. I always bring my own gear everywhere I go so I didn't use theirs and I didn't see anyone having any problems when using the dive shops gear. The dive shop does offer Package deals that per tank does get cheaper and ranged from $200-$400 U.S. dollars. These prices include gear and many dives along with a couple of night dives. I didn't purchase any packages from the dive shop because I was mainly their to dive the Cenotes. But I did go on one Ocean dive that was real nice. They do have some good reefs to explore and if I was going to stay longer would have dived the Ocean a few more times.
The Cenotes where something out of Nationl Geographic. Fantastic!!!!! Breathtaking!!!!!!! If you are a diver you have to dive the Cenotes. I had always heard they were great but I didn't know how great till I saw it for myself. 300ft vis. like diving in air. Caverns hundreds of years old. unreal!! finding fossels from the prehistoric age. What a dream!
My brother and I paid $99 each for two tanks, transportation, and lunch. If you pay anything higher you are getting robbed. Get with the Rep at the Resort from the company you booked with ( Funjet, Apple etc...) and set this up with them. The on-site dive shop does offer the Cenotes but are more expensive. Remember, pay no more than $99 U.S. Tell the Rep that. Trust me, he will find the deal for you. My brother and I dived with Aquaworld and they did a great job!! If you want a web site to checkout the Cenotes further (online: hiddenworlds) is a good web site. You can also snorkel the Cenotes if your not a diver. Some companies have gear that you can use ( Aquaworld did ) others require you bring your own.
