color=#0000ff>   Iberostar Message BoardMy family just returned from Mexico on July 23rd. Yes we were there during hurricane Emily. It was myself, my husband both in our 30's and our 2 daughters (1) 15 the other was (10). 1st I will say that the resort was definitely prepared as far as shelter for all of the vacationers. We all stayed safe and the staff was extremely nice. We were actually one of the lucky one's meaning we weren't piled into the convention center once it was full they moved the rest of us to the Steak house, where we had use of tables & chairs, couches, and they even let us go and get our pillows and blankets from our rooms. After 14 hours they set us free. The resort was pretty messed up. I do have to say the employees there worked incredibly hard to get things back into shape. Slowly they got the pools up and going, but we never did get to get into the Ocean the beach was destroyed. Everyone there is extremely nice and the main host of the nightly shows was very entertaining.

My dislikes well where do I start. Of course there were quite of few nights that the specialty resturants were not open do to flooding, and well we could only take so much of buffet food, so we went into Playa Del Carmen twice to eat dinner. Carlos & Charlies was a lot of fun. The breakfast buffets were the best, Lunches were Not so good. They never label their food so I didn't even know what 1/2 the stuff even was. When we finally got a reservation to the Japanese resturant which by the was we were told was completely booked, when we got there there were about 8 tables which seated 16 people each, we were the only table there and eating, 1/2 way through another table started filling up, but I never saw it booked especially when it seated at least 128 people, that just lead me to believe that they were never booked. I did like the food there but the Japanese steak houses here in the States are much better. I also liked the Seafood resturant, actually it was the best. I did not like the regular steak house, the tenderloin was not very tender it was very tough to cut and chew. At night they do some really nice enteraining shows, although they have something starting around 9:00 for kids 8-12 years old, then another show starts every night at 9:30 for adults. I did not like the fact that everytime my 15year tried to volunteer to go on stage they did NOT let her because she wasn't 18. So basically they had nothing at all for kids 13-18 to participate in. There were lots of games they played that did not pertain to anything sexual or drinking, so I was very upset that my daughter could not participate. Do to the hurricane most of the excursions were cancelled so really we were stuck at the hotel. When we left we expressed to them that under the circumstances we understand the hurricane put a magor damper on things, but the lindo is one of the most expansive Iberostar hotels so we spent a lot to stay here. We gave up a lot one whole day they would not serve any alcohol, we went almost 24hours without eating, (do to the fact everything was flooded) the night before the storm they were supposed to give everyone 2 seperate bags of food, well I guess they ran out, we only got one, and it was nasty. We went without specialty resturants for 4 of our 7 nights. The way I saw it was that they saved quite a bit of money by not having all that opened. Because the buffet food was mainly salad, fruit, pasta, hamburgers, chicken, lots of fried food, and did I mention pasta, well you get my point. Anyway when we asked if they were giving any incentives to come back they simply so NO and that was it, which completely has just turned me away. Although the resort was very pretty and the employees were very nice I don't think I would return. I have been to a lot of different carribean islands and I still liked Jamaica the best. I think we are trying Turks & Caico's next year.
