Iberostar Message Board
We stayed at I.H.D. for one week in April, 2004. Overall, the Iberostar chain is far superior to other hotel chains operating in the D.R. They are a company based in Spain and many of the food products are imported and not local. The resort itself if simply gorgeous in its architecture and landscaping. What we enjoyed most was the beautiful beach with the lighthouse bar overlooking the Caribbean Sea with the waves crashing against the rocks, the fantastic specialty restaurants (incredible), the swim-up bar, and the international (not just rum) brands of liquor available at no extra cost. The lobby bar is a great spot to gather and have a cocktail before dinner. They strive to please with drinks served in decorated glasses. My travel agent recommended this resort by saying, "it seems that once people go to Hacienda Dominicus, they don't want to go anywhere else." I agree. Iberostar generally is a little pricey in comparison to other hotels in the area, but well worth it. We even had paella on the beach cooked over a fire in a gigantic open pan with the chefs all adding different seafood to the pot. They served sangria with it and we ate right on the beach. It was wonderful. What could they improve on?? The entertainment is just okay, they try very hard though. Also we like a hot jacuzzi (hot tub) and theirs is cold. Even though it's hot out, we'd like at least warm water. They do have a hot water hot tub at the spa but it is indoors. Overall, this resort is tops with us and I'd be disappointed to go elsewhere now.
