color=#0000ff>   Iberostar Message BoardMy family of 5 just returned from the Lindo last night. You would never know that a hurricane just ripped through the resort. The only evidence was a couple of downed trees, a two missing roofs. One missing roof from the Lindo Chinese restaurant and the other from the Maya beach buffet. The buffet was being served on the porch, so it was still available. The chinese restaurant was closed, but they were serving an international buffet in the convention center. The service was absolutely wonderful, the food was great, and the entire resort( from the Del Mar to the Maya) was in incredible shape and was not lacking at all in foliage. It was absolutely amazingly beautiful. The only downfall was the water at the beach. When we got there on Tuesday, July 26th, the water was very seaweedy ( if that is a word). By the time we left, it was much better and you could see the bottom in the shallowest part. The beach itself had been very well groomed and was in outstanding shape. Not hardly any beach erosion. (I didn't think there was any, but I haven't been there in two years, so I don't remember.) Everything was 100% functional!! I really felt sorry for the bartenders, because so many had cancelled (and there was no reason to) that there tips were down. We found out they only get paid $5 A DAY!!! The Maya was only at60% occupancy at the time of our arrival, but by the time we left was full. It is ashamed that the internet misinterpreted the destruction at the Iberostar, because it was absolutely wonderful and beautiful.
My son and I went scuba diving and had a great time on both days. The water was still a little cloudy, and some of the marine life was gone, but it sure beat working!! We ventured out to Xel-ha one day and had a fabulous time there as well. Some of the attractions were still closed,(the hidden beach and one other small attraction in the jungle) but they were not missed because there is no way you can do everything in one day. Swimming with the dolphins was absolutely incredible. Well worth the money.
My only complaints: they treat you like royalty when you check in, but the checking out process you are treated as pheasants. We did not get picked up until 5 pm and needed a late checkout. NO WAY would they let us. Told us we could use the "complimentary room" for the rest of the day and could shower. Well, the "room was an over sized closet with a concrete floor and shelves for your luggage, and the shower room had no soap or towels. When I asked for towels they gave me two small thin towels they would be about the right size for small toddler. My 2nd complaint: the fight for the lounge chairs at the pool and the palapas at the beach. R I D I C U L O U S ! ! ! Shaded lounge chairs sat empty for hours at the beach. I sat on the edge of one while I ate and the lady came back to get her sunscreen and yelled at me for sitting on the edge of the lounge chair. THere were 4 sitting there empty and she was the only one in her family there!! Complaint 3: I could never get a reservation at the Japanese restaurant. NO biggie, but still a disappointment.
All of these are minor complaints and would NOT keep me from going back to the Lindo. My family will return next year with our towels ready to play "The Towel Game"!!
