Awesome place for families. Plenty for kids to do during the day. Pools were great. Beach was even better and warmer. Clean...clean...clean.
No problem getting chairs by pool or beach. Rooms were nice - no complaints there either. If you want great access to pools and beach, request builiding 61. If you want closer access to lobby and main restaurants, request higher number like 65. No matter how you slice it though, you will do quite a bit of walking. So if you have young children 4 and under, I suggest bringing a small stroller. You can thank me later. The walk from my room to restaurants was about 7-8 minutes. Also, lots of action at the Lindo side of hotel where the "Theater" is. Breakfast and Lunch was very good. Make sure you dine in the "nicer restaurants" for breakfast and lunch. This is much better than the quick buffet by the pool. Lunch by the beach was nice though, as they BBQ burgers and other things just steps away from your lounge chair. "It doesn't get much better than that. Dinner was hit or miss, but still good overall. There are many restaurants try. I recommend the Italian, Cajun, and Japanese. I didn't care for Mexican, Steakhouse, or Seafood. But that's my opinion. I cannot comment on the other restaurants as I ate only at the 6 noted above.
Couple of annoying things to be aware of: (1) Kids club seemed best suited for 5-8 year olds. My 9 and 11 year old only used the club one for 3 hours, and my 3 1/2 year old was too young. (2) Don't lose your towel cards - it will cost you $10 to replace. (3) Don't break anything in the hotel stores - they will make you pay. I saw it happen twice. (4) Pools are beautiful but 5 degrees too cold in my opinion. No big deal though. (5) Beach waves can be rough for toddlers, but everyone else will enjoy. (6) Nightly entertainment was hit or miss. (7) MEN - bring pants for evening. You cannot dine in restaurants without pants.
BOTTOM LINE: I can go on and on about this resort. The bottom line though is the place is awesome and worthy of my family to go back. But maybe next time we go for 10 nights instead of 7. Rarely will I go back to same resort - THE MAYA is the exception.
