Stayed at the Maya from 4-19-05 thru 4-26-05. Last year we stayed at the Lindo in June and we actually love the Lindo more. Maya is beautiful but needs another year to become what the Lindo is now. It just opened in December. Beds are ROCK hard but if you like FIRM mattresses, then this will not be a problem for you. (Hubby hurt his back pretty bad on the way down so this affected us for a few days. The on-property clinic is VERY nice.) Only difference between Maya & Lindo is that the Maya has a whirlpool bath (very nice), 2 sinks, 2 closets, Mexican swing on the balcony & bigger tv w/dvd player (we couldn't get ours to work). I think they made the rooms at the Maya bigger in order to appeal to the families but the couch in the room is not a pull-out sleeper and how can you appeal to the families by charging almost $400 per person more just to stay there and make your kids sleep on cots? My opinion is to pay the extra bucks for these few "perks" only if you're planning on staying in your room A LOT. If not, then book at the Lindo. It's just hubby & I and we're water babies so we just came back to the room to shower, change, watch a little tv late at night and sleep. Occupancy was way down the week we were there which was fabulous for me because I hate crowds. The 4 new restaurants at the Maya for the dinner crowd were not jammed pack at all-most of the people were at the Lindo Buffet or the Del Mar Buffet. Weather was beautiful-in the high 80's with no rain the entire week. There are 3 buildings at the Maya that have their own individual pool attached to the building. This is a very nice feature if you want peace and quiet and don't want to deal with the noisy crowd at the main pool on the Lindo side. Beach on the Maya side is nice and quiet too-I don't think enough people have realized it's there yet. I'm not giving the Maya an "Excellent" only because I don't think the cost justifies the few extra perks. But don't misunderstand-the Maya is beautiful and you will have a fabulous time soaking up the sun and relaxing. Our personal preference is the Lindo. We will definitely stay at the Lindo again in the future. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
