We arrived at Punta cana airport on 7th October at 5:30, check in was very fast and our luggage was quickly loaded on the coach. No problems with porters hastling you to take your bags as in previous airports in the Dominican Republic. Our only disappointment was that we had been re located to a different hotel due to hurrican damage.(we were meant to stay at the Sirenis hotel, for the third year running)
ARRIVAL AT THE HOTEL.
The coach journey to the hotel took only 30mins we saw a lot of hurricane damage in the punta cana town and were a bit worried about what the hotel was going to be like. When the coach pulled up outside the lobby our first impression was wow ! it was huge with the shiniest floor we have ever seen. We were greeted with a welcome drink and check in was extremely fast this is when we recieved our room keys all inclusive bands etc... We were then taken to our room and our luggage closely followed by the porters a small tip is very much appreciated.
ROOM
The room is very large and spacious we had two double beds, mini bar stocked daily with water sorft drinks and beer. The bottle opener is in the bathroom on the wall! took a while to work that out. but most importantly it was kept very clean by the maids they used to leave us swans made from towels and fresh flowers layed out on the bed and in the bathroom again a small tip is very much appreciated and they will make sure they look after you for your stay.
POOL AND BEACH.
There is two large pools one with volleyball nets and the other where they play water polo. the pools are sectioned off by steps and islands with palm trees. the grounds are very beautiful with gardeners working day and night . It was impossible to get a sun lounger by the pool as people put their towels on them over night and then dont turn up until lunch time the next day or sometimes not at all how annoying!(there towles went in the pool after a few rums in the disco haha)
The beach was beautiful with white sands lined with palm trees. They played volley ball and football here and you could also use any of the non motorised water facilities all inclusive. The water sports people are very friendly. The sea is can be quite rough at times im not sure if this could have been because of the hurricane but was a lovely turquiouse colour and very warm.
RESTRAUNTS
By the pool there is two buffet resteraunts in the day which turned into theme resteraunts on the night even though on our stay there was only one open the other had been completely destroyed by the hurricane and so it was hard to get a table in the other at lunch times but there was always the other resteraunt by the lobby where you could get food from at any time so you will never starve. For the night time you could either choose the main buffet resteraunt which was sectioned off into two parts the european side and the american side these often served the same food every night or you can book to go to one of the main theamed resteraunts such as chinese i recommend this or steak house etc or go to the star rock cafe we found the food in here the nicest it was american style and played great music!
STAR FRIENDS!!!!
The Star friends are the hotels great animation team and they work very hard from 10:00am to 1:00am their day starts off on the beach where you can play archery, volleyball waterpolo in the pool, mini golf aerobics, dance lessons and the club dance! Dale palle, and at three its BINGO BINGO BONGO BONGO time! if you win you will get a t-shirt or hat from jack! you will find the olympic games fun whether you are participating or watching from your sun lounger. Please give the star friends a tip as their wage is only $40 a month. please say hello to Mac and Noel from us as these were our favouites and we still keep in contact with them, Mac is so friendly and will often come up for a chat and ask him to sing for you as he has his own band, Noel works in the towel hut and is always talking and smiling if you make friends with him you will spend most of your time at the towel hut. Jay Jay, was the funniest person we have ever met he would often come to the beach dressed as an old lady and was very protective over his wig Snoop Doggy Dog. Archie and jonathon were very sweet, other star friends were Jack, Ding Dong, Patricia, Sista, Kasandra, micheal and jameal, they were all great fun!
You will see the star friends in the show which starts at 9:30 and then again in the disco until 1:00 am where you can have a dance with them and do the club dance at 12:00.
