color=#0000ff> Iberostar Message BoardWe traveled to Cozumel on July 7-14 and stayed at the Iberostar Hotel. What a wonderful hotel that is. We rented a Jeep from Avis at the airport and explored the island every chance we could. We dove several times while we were there. We used two different dive operators and loved them both. The first one was with Sea Urchin Dive. We did the twilight/night dive tour and then dove in the daytime and brought our kids and they went snorkeling. On the night dive, my husband and I were the only ones and then on the day dive there were only 3 people. It is a small boat so it doesn't hold all those people we saw with some of the other companies there. The dive master was great and pointed out all kinds of creatures while we were diving that I would have never seen on my own. They were great with the kids and catered to anything we might want. We were picked up at the pier at the Iberostar, so we didn't have to drive anywhere. The other company we used was Blue Angel. We had booked the dive/snorkel combo tour, but the snorkel part of the trip was canceled due to the remnants of Hurricane Dennis. My husband and I went diving and they to did a great job pointing out creatures and locating a seahorse for us. They have a small boat also, so it isn't one of those cattle boats that cram as many people as they can on a boat. We did have to drive to there location, but since we had the Jeep it was no problem. A taxi into town from the Iberostar is $17 each way, so that is why I rented the jeep as soon as we got there so we could come and go as we pleased all week. The next time we are in Coz, we will use both of these dive operators again. We did the Jungle Jeep tour also and had a wonderful time. My husband had a blast driving the Jeep through the rough terrain and my kids enjoyed bouncing up and down all over. They take you to two mayan ruins, beach, and they take you out snorkeling on a reef. The swim out there is not too bad. My 12year old daughter made it with no problems. It was on this reef that I saw a nurse shark swim right by me. Our hotel provided dinner at Carlos n Charlies and you have to have dinner there once. It was a lot of fun. They have a lot of audience participation there, so be prepared to dance, or do the conga line. We took the ferry over to Playa twice while we were there and did different excursions there. One day we went to Tak Be Ha (cenotes) and Tulum Ruins. If you grab one of the collectivos to these locations, it only costs $2.50 per person each way and they drop you off on the highway and then it is just a short walk to the entrance. It definitely saved me a lot of money doing it this way than paying a tour company. We went to Xel-ha also. This was the second time I have been there. If you like to snorkel, then you should go to this park. You see all kinds of fish. We saw huge barracudas, even had a turtle swim by. We had a great time in Cozumel and loved the Iberostar hotel. Hopefully we will be able to go again next year, and get more diving in.
